Asagaya Station North Exit (Meeting Point)
The tour begins here. Our friendly English-speaking guide will welcome guests with a small flag and a warm smile. This is the perfect opportunity for introductions before diving into the retro streets of Asagaya.
Asagaya Pearl Center Shopping Arcade
Walk through this charming covered shopping street that dates back to the Showa era. The guide will explain the history of the neighborhood, point out local specialty stores like wagashi (traditional sweets) shops, tea sellers, and quirky souvenir spots. Colorful lanterns and vintage signage line the way.
Goldfish Scooping Experience
Try your hand at kingyo sukui, a traditional Japanese game often found at summer festivals. Guests will enjoy the playful challenge of scooping live goldfish using a paper net — a nostalgic experience for many locals. No need to take the fish home!
Japanese Sweets Tasting Break
Take a short rest at a local wagashi shop or an old-fashioned kissaten (café). Sample seasonal treats like taiyaki, dorayaki, or cream anmitsu, and hear from the guide about the history and symbolism of Japanese desserts.
Izakaya Dining Experience
The highlight of the tour: step into a cozy, nostalgic izakaya and experience Japanese drinking culture firsthand. Enjoy two drinks (beer, sake, or soft drinks) and three local dishes while seated at the counter alongside regulars. A perfect way to feel like a local.
